FAQ - MAC OS

Why doesn't my HTML editor work on my Mac?

It is a known fact that the html creator has a bug when used on a MacIntosh computer when using Blackboard CE 8. The only browser that might work is Safari version 3, but the HTML editor does not always work in this browser either.

I am using a Mac with Snow Leopard and the HTML editor is not working. What can I do?

  • To force a fresh download of the applets from the server, clear the Java cache under Finder->Applications->Utilities->Java Preferences->Network->Delete Files
  • In Java Preferences->General, move the the Java SE 32-bit runtime so it's first in order above the 64-bit version

What browser do you recommend for the MAC?

MAC OS 10.4, 10.5 supported and unsupported browsers are listed in the chart below:
Supported Internet Browsers:
Unsupported Internet Browsers:
  • Safari 3.0, 3.1
  • Firefox 2.0
  • Safari 3.2
  • Firefox 3.0

Can I use Blackboard with Safari 5?

You can but it is not compatible yet so you may experience issues while using this version.

Why do I need to turn off pop-up blockers while using Blackboard

Blackboard sometimes uses small browser windows to deliver requested content & some pop-up blockers incorrectly interpret these small windows as pop-ups and block them

How do you turn off Pop-Up blockers in Safari?

After opening Safai, click the menu item "Safari" and then click "Block Pop-Up blockers" to remove the check. The menu closes and if you click the menu item "Safari" again you will see that the menu item "Block Pop-Up blockers" no longer has a check.
